2.3 Hydraulic Pump &
Rotating Spray Bar
Overview
The spray bar is attached to a thru-shaft that runs
through the hydraulic pump. High pressure water
is delivered to the spray bar by a hole drilled in
the center of the thru-shaft. Large nozzles on each
end of the spray bar provide the force to rotate
the spray bar and pump. Other smaller nozzles
inboard of the large nozzles do the blasting.
The hydraulic pump operates in a closed loop
circuit which acts as a brake to the control rota-
tion speed. As the spray bar turns it spins the
pump to circulate the hydraulic fluid to and from
the reservoir built into the handle. An adjustable
needle valve controls the flow of fluid which al
-
lows the operator to increase or decrease spray
bar rotation speed. Turn the knob clockwise to
increase speed. Turn the knob counter clockwise
to decrease speed.
CAUTION
HEAd ROTATION SPEEdS EXCEEdING 3000 RPM WILL
dAMAGE THE BEARINGS ANd THRu-SHAFT PuMP. dAMAGE
CAuSEd BY EXCESSIvE RPM WILL NOT BE COvEREd BY
THE HOG TECHNOLOGIES WARRANTY.
The tapered bearing at the upper end of the thru-
shaft pump is equipped with a grease fitting and
requires grease at the start of each day. Grease
should be pumped into the bearing until clean
grease comes out of the relief holes in the motor
housing on each side of the bearing. The lower
thru-shaft pump bearing is sealed and requires
no lubrication.
The Hog Head is designed for a maximum UHP
water flow of 9 GPM (34 L) at 40,000 psi (2758
Bar). Water flow in excess of 9 GPM (34 L) will
cause the spray bar to exceed designed rotation
speed and could damage the pump and Hog Head.
If water volume in excess of 9 GPM (34 L) is
required, contact Hog Technologies Customer
Service for assistance.
UHP Water Supply
High pressure water is supplied by the UHP hose con-
nected to the UHP and vacuum power system. The
hose is secured to the thru-shaft pump housing by
the swivel nut. The swivel nut is hand tightened.
