2.4 Ground Hog Control Systems
UHP water is supplied to the Ground Hog by a
high pressure pump. Controls for the pump and
engine are unique to the power system. All op-
erators should have a thorough understanding of
the power system and controls before operating
the equipment.
High pressure water to the spray bar is turned ON
and OFF by a lever on the Ground Hog handle. A
knob on the handle below the lever controls spray
bar rotation speed.
The lever simply closes the Dump Valve as it is
squeezed which causes all water to go through the
spray bar. If the nozzles are sized properly and
deliver a high cohesive stream of water, the pres-
sure will rise and cause the spray bar to rotate.
Spray bar rotation speed is controlled by open-
ing or closing the needle valve on the handle that
restricts hydraulic fluid flow. Rotate the valve
counterclockwise to open the valve and increase
rotation speed. Rotate the valve clockwise to close
the valve and decrease rotation speed or stop
spray bar rotation for testing purposes.

AN EMERGENCY WITH THE LEvER SECuREd IN THE ON
POSITION. THIS COuLd CAuSE THE OPERATOR TO LOSE
CONTROL OF THE GROuNd HOG ANd ALLOW THE HIGH
PRESSuRE WATER STREAM TO CONTACT THE OPERATOR’S
BOdY OR THE BOdY OF ANOTHER PERSON, RESuLTING IN
SERIOuS INJuRY OR dEATH.
