Creating a New File
When you select

New
from the Exicor menu bar, the following happens:
•
Any data and macros in memory are cleared.
•
The new grid spacing setting is put into effect. Changing the grid spacing
setting has no effect until you select
File
Æ
New
or start a new scan.
•
The graph is zoomed out to show the entire stage area.
Opening an Existing File
When you select
File
Æ
Open
from the Exicor menu bar, the Open dialog box
appears. Again, this is similar to other Windows File Open dialog boxes.
Use this Open dialog box as you would any similar dialog box under Windows.
When you open an existing file, you cannot change the scan grid spacing.
If the units of the scan are nm/cm or nm/inch, you can change the sample thickness
and the Exicor software will recalculate the birefringence at each measurement
point. If you change the sample thickness then save the file, the file will be saved
with the new sample thickness. Do not change the sample thickness unless the
original thickness was incorrect.
Copying Files to the Clipboard
The Exicor software enables you to copy and paste your data graphs to other
applications that are capable of accepting bitmap images. To copy a scan to the
clipboard, select
File

Copy Graph.
The copied image contains the following
information:
•
Birefringence or stress plot data
•
Filename and sample ID
•
Legend
•
Scan information: sensitivity, sample thickness, time and date, statistics,
comments
The image copied to the Windows Clipboard is similar to the output produced by
printing your data (see the figure below).
