Storage controller options
This server supports the following controllers:
• Embedded controllers
The embedded controller is enabled through UEFI System Utilities and configured using either System Utilities or the
HPE Smart Storage Administrator (Intelligent Provisioning).

• Type-p storage controllers
Type-p storage controllers install in a PCIe expansion slot.

Installing a type-p controller
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury, electric shock, or damage to the equipment, remove power from
the server by removing the power cord. The front panel Power On/Standby button does not shut off system power.
Portions of the power supply and some internal circuitry remain active until AC power is removed.
CAUTION: To prevent improper cooling or thermal damage, the server PCI slots must have an expansion slot blank
or an expansion board installed.
CAUTION: Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends performing a backup of all server data before installing or
removing a controller or adapter.
Population guidelines
• Up to four internal cabled controllers can be installed in the primary riser cage.
• The butterfly riser supports only two internal cabled controllers in slots 15 and 16.
• No internal cabled controllers are supported in slots 8 through 14.
• There are no limitations on the number of externally cabled controllers.
Prerequisites
Before you perform this procedure, make sure that you have the following items available:
• The components included with the hardware option kit
• T-10 Torx screwdriver
