exists with the smaller sensors. The possible unsharpness also becomes most objectionable
when photographing fl at, rather than three dimension subjects where the effect is hardly
noticeable and certainly not objectionable. For photographing fl at object with the ArcBody
on the large sensor, only the 75 mm Rodenstock lens should be considered.
APPLICATIONS FOR THE FLEXBODY, ARCBODY, AND PC MUTAR
Hasselblad FlexBody and ArcBody cameras are designed around a fl exible bellows for shift
and tilt control in medium-format photography. Tilting the image plane increases the range of
sharpness beyond anything that is possible with the depth-of-fi eld range of any lens and can
therefore be helpful for many types of subjects from a landscape to interior architecturals and
food or other tabletop illustrations.
Shifting the image plane up or down, as is possible in both the FlexBody and the ArcBody,
covers more of the top or bottom of a subject, the top of a building for example, without
tilting the camera thus avoiding slanted verticals. The shift and tilt control on both cameras
only works up and down. If you need to tilt or shift along the horizontal plane, turn the entire
camera sideways. The image is evaluated on both cameras on the focusing screen adapter spe-
cifi cally made for these cameras and is included in the camera package.
The PC Mutar Teleconverter also can include more at the bottom or top of a subject with-
out tilting the camera but does so by shifting the lens plane up or down instead of the image
plane. The PC Mutar lens has a shutter and can therefore be used for fi lm photography or dig-
ital imaging on all Hasselblad cameras that use shutter lenses. The image can be evaluated on
the focusing screen of the camera with the standard or any of the prism viewfi nders.
FlexBody Characteristics
Since you tilt the image plane on the FlexBody (not the lens plane), the image plane remains
in the center of the optical axis so you do not need special lenses with large covering power.
All V system Hasselblad lenses can be used in combination with the tilt control on the
FlexBody.
The image plane on the FlexBody can also be shifted up or down to include more of the
bottom or top of a subject, but the range is limited because of the limited covering power of
Hasselblad lenses. These lenses were designed to cover the 6
6 (2¼ 2¼) image format
and nothing larger which is necessary when the lens is shifted out of its image center. Figure
13-2 shows the main FlexBody operating controls.
ArcBody Characteristics
Extensive shifting of the image plane is possible on the ArcBody because this camera must be
used with special Rodenstock lenses with a large covering power designed for large format
photography. The image plane on the ArcBody can also be tilted to increase the sharpness
range. Figure 13-3 shows the ArcBody camera controls.
