Introduction
The
BRITTEN NORMAN ISLANDER
is an ultra-lightweight twin-motor semi-scale model aircraft. It looks very
impressive in the air, and flies at an unusually low speed which makes it look very realistic.
Building instructions
The first step is to solder the suppressors and the power leads to the SPEED 300 7.2 V electric motors.
The suppressor capacitors are supplied ready to fit; the smaller capacitors and instructions are supplied with the
motors. Solder the large 470 nF capacitor between the two motor terminals. Snip off the excess pin length, and solder
the power wires to the motor terminals.
Caution:
red wire to the terminal marked with a red dot.
The picture shows the prepared motor and mounting components.
Use the motor bulkhead as a template for marking the fixing holes (3 mm Ø and 6 mm Ø) on the GRP motor nacelles.
Drill the holes and glue the bulkhead on the inside using UHU-plus schnellfest.
Caution:
check the correct location
beforehand by temporarily screwing the motor in place and fitting the precision spinner on the motor shaft from the
front. You will be able to see from the position of the spinner whether the bulkhead is seated correctly. If necessary,
sand the bulkhead to obtain a good fit.
