Glossary
Ambulatory.
The activity of using the RigiScan Plus Monitor to collect data when it is independent
of the PC.
Baseline Tumescence
. The estimated circumference of the penis in the resting, or flaccid, non-erect
condition.
Characterization Session.
The first session of recording performed after the RigiScan Monitor has
been initialized. The Characterization Session establishes “control” base and tip tumescence data that
can be used for comparison with data collected in the subsequent sessions. After the monitor is turned
on, the maximum duration allowed for characterization is fifteen minutes. If the monitor is left on for
a period exceeding fifteen minutes during the Characterization Session, it will automatically start to
record session one. To record only in the Characterization Session, the monitor must not be left on
for longer than fifteen minutes. The clinician uses this session to instruct the patient in the use of the
RigiScan Monitor and to familiarize the patient with the action of the loops on his penis. This session
helps to verify that the patient is using the device properly at home. After monitoring is completed, and
the data has been downloaded, the Characterization Session graph can be printed or viewed through
the Patient Information window. The data is displayed on a thirty-minute graph. In this graph, the first
one to fifteen minutes of data displayed is from the Characterization Session, and the remaining data
is from session one. This allows you to compare the “control” data with the initial data recorded in
session one. If no Characterization Session was conducted, the graph will display the first thirty min
-
utes of session one.
Downloading
. Transferring data stored in the RigiScan Plus Monitor to the PC for analysis, printout,
and storage.
Initialization
. This procedure prepares the RigiScan Plus Monitor for the next patient. It erases all
data from the RigiScan monitor’s memory and stores the next patient’s profile, including the Patient ID
and date and time of initialization.
Loops
. The circular penile sensors that attach to the penis (base and tip) to measure rigidity and tumes-
cence. They accommodate a range in penile circumference from 5.0 cm to 15.0 cm.
Monitoring
. This term refers to the collecting of rigidity and tumescence data with the RigiScan Plus
Monitor. It can be ambulatory or Real-time.
