Chapter 4: Preparing the RigiScan Plus System for Patient Testing
4.1 Installing the Tension Guides
Prior to each use, inspect the RigiScan Plus Monitor’s Tension Guides, cables and loops to determine
that all parts are in good working order. Replace the Tension Guides if the cables are kinked, frayed or
worn, the boots are loose or otherwise worn or damaged, or the tension guides are crushed or broken.
Because the TIP and BASE Tension Guides are not interchangeable, it is important that you insert
the correct guide into its corresponding guide housing. Notice the two labels on the end of the Ri-
giScan Plus Monitor, marked as
TIP
and
BASE
. The BASE tension guide (BLUE boot) must
be installed in the
BASE
Connector Housing, and the TIP Tension Guide (WHITE boot) must be
installed in the
TIP
Connector Housing.
To install the tension guides, follow these steps:
1. Verify that the RigiScan Plus Monitor is turned off.
2.
Verify that the appropriate Tension Guide (BASE=BLUE, TIP=WHITE) has been selected.
3. Verify that the plastic retention nut on the tension guide has been turned fully towards the boot of
the Tension Guide and the loop fully expanded.
4. Hold the Tension Guide by the boot at the ball-end of the cable and insert it into the correspond-
ing Tension Guide housing on the Monitor.
5. Align the pin on the Tension Guide with the slot in the housing. Push the Tension Guide into the
housing until it is fully inserted and turn approximately 1/4 turn clockwise until the pin is fully
seated in the slot.
WARNING
Replace the Tension Guies if the boots are loose, the cable is kinked or curled, or the Tension
Guide is crushed or broken. Use of damaged or worn Tension Guides may result in patient in-
jury. The Tension Guides must be inserted in the monitor with the tension guide pin fully seated
in the slot at the top of the housing. Use of a RigiScan with improperly inserted tension guides
may result in patient injury. TIP and BASE Tension Guides are not interchangeable! For ease in
identification, the BASE Tension Guide has BLUE boots, the TIP Tension Guide has WHITE boots.
Inserting the Tension Guides in the wrong connector housing may damage the monitor. Turn the
RigiScan Plus Monitor “off” before replacing or removing the Tension Guides/cables. Operating
the monitor without the Tension Guides/cables in place may damage the device or result in in-
ability to insert the Tension Guide.
