Beep Cues
Each time the patient turns the RigiScan Plus Monitor on, it will emit a series of beep tones to indicate
that the device is active and which session it is ready to record. For example, the first session is indicated
by a single beep, the second by two beeps, and so on. When the RigiScan Plus Monitor has reached
its maximum storage capacity (three sessions), it will emit a 5-second beep tone. At this point, you
need to download the date and re-initialize the RigiScan Plus Monitor before it can record any further
sessions.
5.4 The Characterization Session
A Characterization Session is intended for patient orientation before the patient uses the system at
home for nocturnal testing. The clinician uses this session to instruct the patient in the use of the
RigiScan Monitor and to familiarize the patient with the action of the loops on his penis. The Charac
-
terization Session establishes “control” base and tip tumescence data that can be used for comparison
with data collected in the subsequent sessions. This helps to verify that the patient is using the device
properly at home. A Characterization Session is the first session of recording performed after the Ri
-
giScan Monitor has been initialized. After the monitor is turned on, the maximum duration allowed
for characterization is fifteen minutes. If the monitor is left on for a period exceeding fifteen minutes
during the Characterization Session, it will automatically start to record session one. To record only
in the Characterization Session, the monitor must not be left on for longer than fifteen minutes. After
monitoring is completed, and the data has been downloaded, the Characterization Session graph can
be printed or viewed through the Patient Information window. The data is displayed on a thirty-minute
graph. In this graph, the first one to fifteen minutes of data displayed is from the Characterization Ses
-
sion, and the remaining data is from session one. This allows you to compare the “control” data with
the initial data recorded in session one. If no Characterization Session was conducted, the graph will
display the first thirty minutes of session one.
5.5 Downloading Data from the Monitor
When the patient has completed up to three sessions in either ambulatory or Real-time mode, you
must download the data from the RigiScan Plus Monitor to the computer. It is important to remember
once you connect the RigiScan Plus Monitor to the computer and initialize the RigiScan Plus Monitor
with new patient information, all data stored previously in the RigiScan Plus Monitor will be erased
and replaced by the new initialization data. For instructions on how to download data from the RigiS-
can Plus Monitor to your computer, see To Download Patient Data in Chapter 3.
