Precautions for Safe Handling and Use
================================================================Steps If Matl
Released/Spill: STOP LEAK IF POSSIBLE. ELIMINATE ALL SOURCES OF IGNITION. VENTILATE
AREA. REDUCE VAPORS W/WATER SPRAY. EVACUATE ALL PERSONNEL. PROPANE IS
HEAVIER THAN AIR & CAN SETTLE INTO LOW AREAS. AVOID TOUCHING GAS.
Neutralizing Agent: NOT APPLICABLE.
Waste Disposal Method: MOVE LEAKY CYLINDER TO OUTDOORS OR VENTILATED HOOD.
ALLOW GAS TO DISCHARGE AT MODERATE RATE. DISPOSE IAW FED/STATE/
LOCALREGULATIONS.
Precautions-Handling/Storing: DO NOT DROP CYLINDER. STORE IN CONTAINERS
MEETING BONDING & GROUNDING GUIDELINES SPECIFIED IN NFPA 77-1983,
RECOMMENDED PRACT ON STATIC ELECTIRICITY.
Other Precautions: STORAGE TEMPERATURE SHOULD BE KEPT BELOW 125F.
CYLINDERS MUST NOT BE RECHARGED.
========================================================================
Control Measures
================================================================Respiratory
Protection: SELF-CONTAINED BREATHING APPARATUS WHERE THE
CONCENTRATION OF PROPANE WOULD REDUCE OXYGEN LEVEL BELOW 18% IN INHALED
AIR.
Ventilation: USE EXPLOSION PROOF VENTILATION EQUIPMENT.
Protective Gloves: INSULATED LEATHER GLOVES AS REQUIRED.
Eye Protection: SAFETY GLASSES, GOGGLES OR FACE SHIELD
Other Protective Equipment: PROTECTIVE CLOTHING FOR MINIMUM SKIN CONTACT.
NONE NORMALLY REQUIRED. EYE WASH FOUNTAIN & QUICK DRENCH SHOWER.
Work Hygienic Practices: OBSERVE GOOD PERSONAL HYGIENE PRACTICES AND
RECOMMENDED PROCEDURES. USE PROPER CARE WHEN HANDLING AND STORING
CYLINDERS.
Suppl. Safety & Health Data: LOW ELECTROCONDUCTIVITY OF PROPANE, FLOW OR
AGITATION MAY GENERATE ELECTROSTATIC CHARGES RESULTING IN SPARKS
W/POSSIBLE IGNITION. REFER TO CGA BULLETIN SB-2 "OXYGEN DEFICIENT
ATMOSPHERES".
STIMULANTS SUCH AS EPINEPHRINE MAY INDUCE VENTRICULAR FIBRILLATION.
