NGS-Introduction

NOTES

GENERIC OBD II FUNCTIONS

The EPA OBD II requires that certain emission components be
monitored continuously so that malfunctions can be corrected
as soon as they occur. The NGS is designed to access these
codes.

OBD II also requires that all vehicles use the same codes for
these concerns.

Therefore, NGS will be able to access emission system
diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)  for any vehicle that complies
with OBD II.

NGS/OBD II functions also include a number of tests and
functions, these are detailed in the OBD II lesson of this
manual.

VIEW RECORDER AREAS

Many of the NGS functions allow you to record the parameter
identification numbers (PlDs) or DTCs for review at a later
time. In the case of PlDs, the data can be viewed on the NGS
screen in either graph or table form. Any data results can be
printed as well as viewed on the screen.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE LIBRARY

To aid you in diagnosing concerns, the NGS has a built-in
library of trouble codes and their meanings. The DTC library
can be accessed under the menu for each type of test (PCM,
ABS, etc.)

REPROGRAMMING THE EEC-V PCM

The NGS can be used to reprogram the EEC-V PCM. A Flash
Kit consisting of a data transfer card and a special cable is
required. Consult your NGS user guide for detailed information.
