FREEZE FRAME DATA AND MIL OPERATION
The freeze frame information is also used by the EEC-V PCM
to determine if a component or system has failed.
When the PCM detects a concern with a component or
system, the logic compares the existing conditions that had
triggered a prior concern involving the same component or
system.
By double-checking a component or system before lighting the
MIL, the EEC-V PCM confirms that a valid component or
system failure is recorded.
The freeze frame data is used to ensure that the component or
system failure has been seen under identical operating
conditions.
In other words, the component or circuit malfunctioning and
the failure is not because of an operating condition that
occurred only once and was not repeated.
DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES
Selecting the DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES function from
the generic OBD II menu provides a listing of any DTCs the
vehicle may have stored in memory. Each DTC that is scrolled
to has a brief description also displayed on the screen.
CLEAR DIAGNOSTIC CODES
Selecting the CLEAR DIAGNOSTIC CODES function from the
generic OBD II menu removes all of the DTCs that are stored
in memory. All codes will be removed, but if the fault is still
present after the next cycle of the ignition key, the DTC is
recorded into memory again.
