transaxle vehicles.
Software: The software is the program in the PCM that provides the strategy control for the PCM
outputs based on the values of the inputs to the PCM.
Solenoid: A device consisting of an electrical coil which, when energized, produces a magnetic field in
a plunger which is pulled to a central position. A solenoid may be used as an actuator in a valve or
switch.
Sonic EGR: Exhaust Gas Recirculation using engine pulses for supply power.
SPARK: is the ignition control data from the PCM, no longer used.
SPOUT: Spark Output indicates desired spark timing information sent from the PCM to the ICM.
SRS: Spark Retard Solenoid.
SS: Shift Solenoid controls shifting in an automatic transmission/transaxle.
ST: Scan Tool is a device that interfaces with and communicates information on a data link.
STAR: Self-Test Automatic Readout.
STC: Series Throttle Controller.
STI: Self-Test Input.
STO: Self-Test Output.
Switch: A device for making, breaking or changing the connections in an electrical circuit.
SUSP: Suspension System Control Module.
System: A group of interacting mechanical or electrical components serving a common purpose.
TAB: Thermactor Air Bypass solenoid.
TACH: Tachometer is a circuit that provides input for an electronic tachometer display.
TAD: Thermactor Air Diverter Solenoid.
TB: Throttle Body.
TCC: Torque Converter Clutch.
TCIL: Transmission Control Indicator Lamp indicates the TCS has been activated. Also may signal
transmission concerns that do not affect emissions.
TCS: Transmission Control Switch modifies the operation of electronically-controlled transmissions.
Test: A procedure whereby the performance of a product is measured under various conditions.
Test Connector: The test connector (DLC) is located beneath the instrument panel between the left
end of the instrument panel and 300 mm beyond the vehicle centerline.
TFT: Transmission Fluid Temperature (formerly TOT) sensor and signal indicates temperature of
transmission fluid.
Three Test Cycles: The three test cycles are KOEO, KOER and Continuous Memory.
