Using the Chair
6.8 Pausing On the Stairs
If the operators tire, or need to attend the patient during a transport up
or down stairs, the operators communicate and work together to pause
on the stairs.
CARRY CHAIR AND MANUAL TRACK CHAIR
To Stop:
Tilt the chair forward just enough to allow the rear wheels to
rest on the step while both operators hold the chair in place (Figure 26).
To Resume:
● Carry Chair: Lift and carry the chair as instructed in this manual.
● Manual Track Chair: Tilt the chair back to the glide angle and
engage the belts on the steps. Continue down the stairs as
instructed in “Transporting the Patient Down Stairs” on page 24.
POWERTRAXX CHAIR
To Stop:
Stop pressing the control button. Tilt the chair forward just
enough to allow the rear wheels to rest on the step while both operators
hold the chair in place (Figure 26).
Note:
If the system has power, the track brake engages automatically when
the control buttons are not activated.
To Resume: Tilt the chair back to the glide angle and engage the belts
on the steps. Press the appropriate control button to resume the ascent
or descent.
6.9 Using a PowerTraxx Chair
Without Power
DESCENDING STAIRS WITHOUT POWER
If the PowerTraxx system loses power, the belts are free to rotate,
however, the internal speed limiter will limit the speed of the belts as
the chair descends the stairs. Use care and control the descent of an
unpowered chair.
Follow the instructions in “Using the Manual Track Chair to Descend
Stairs” on page 25, and allow the tracks to carry the weight of the
chair and patient.
ASCENDING STAIRS WITHOUT POWER
If the PowerTraxx system fails for any reason during an ascent, the
operators must pick up the chair with its patient and carry them up
the stairs. See “Using the Carry Chair and Manual Track Chair to Ascend
Stairs” on page 27.
