Configuring the Extricom WLAN System

Field

Description

Rates
Configuration

For each of the data rates listed, select whether the
rate is

Basic

Optional

, or

Disabled

.

When configuring the data rates, you should
consider the data rate capabilities of the clients in
your enterprise.

Basic

 – The

Basic

data rates are usually the data

rates that the vast majority of your clients can
support. Only clients who support all the

Basic

data rates will be supported by the Switch.
Therefore, it is recommended that you should
configure a minimal number of basic data rates
that the vast majority or all your clients can
support. When working in Mixed Mode, there
should be at least one Basic rate from the
802.11b rates.

Optional

 – If you configure a data rate as

Optional

, the network will provide that data rate

to clients who can support it.

Disabled

 –

Disabled

 data rates are not available

to clients.

Adapt

 – Select for each data rate that is to participate

in rate adaptation. The Allow Rate Adaptation
checkbox must be checked to enable these fields.

Since the Extricom WLAN system allows
for dense deployment of Access Points
that provides high data rates, it is
recommended where applicable, to
disable low data rates. Not doing this can
cause an edge user effect, whereby a
client can greatly reduce the aggregate
network throughput by moving away
from the desired coverage area.

Short Preamble:

This option becomes available only if choosing
802.11b as the WLAN mode. In this case, mark the
checkbox to allow a short preamble.
