3.3 INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAINTENANCE
3.3.1 Inspection and maintenance
R
EMARK
In case of inspection and maintenance work it is
recommended to consult local regulations or NEN-
EN 50110 and NEN 3140.
General
Capitole 40 assemblies are so designed that in normal use
and when installed in a properly air-conditioned room,
virtually no maintenance will be necessary.
It is recommended that after the first year of use, the
assembly should be inspected, paying attention in the
process to the following points:
Visual check
Dust and sand
If there is a lot of dust or sand in the assembly this ought to
be properly vacuumed up. The cause of this accumulation
of dust or sand ought to be removed.
Oxidation
If there is much oxidation on the metal parts this must be
removed (not by electrical connections). The cause must
also be removed (this is very often poor air conditioning in
the installa-tion room).
Mechanical check
Enclosure
Check door-interlocks, hinges, locks and seals (gaskets)
for proper state and functioning.
Fuses
Check whether the knife-type fuse links are positioned
correctly in the bases.
For screw type cartridges insure that these are fully
screwed into the base.
Electrical connections
Check all outgoing main circuit connections by tightening
up the bolts to the prescribed torque rating (see par. 4.1.1).
Random checks should be carried out on secondary
connections in order to check that the wires are properly
attached.
Switches
All hand-operated switches should be turned on and off five
times (self-cleaning contacts).
Draw-out units
Remove the draw-out units one by one and check the
contents to see whether all primary and secon-dary
connections are secure.
Checking the principal and secondary isolating contacts.
The contact-pins ought to be silvered. If the silver has been
worn away through frequent sliding in and out of the draw-
out unit, the contact-pins ought to be replaced.
The contact-pins are provided with a special contact-
lubricant. During a general check of the units it is
recommended that this special lubricant be applied once
more to the contacts.
Scissor-type contacts (isolating contacts between draw-out
unit and vertical busbar system) are located in a cassette,
which can be simply removed by pressing in the edged.
Remove the scissor-type contact and inspect to see
whether the silver layer is still sufficient and whether the
contact is still greased.
Functional check
Electrical components
All electrically working components (relays, ammeters, on
and off switching coils, circuit-breakers,
etc.) should be checked for correct functioning.
After this check has taken place, depending upon
circumstances and the results gained, it must be
decided whether the checks, or elements of them, should
take place once a year or after a number of
years, up to a maximum of five years.
Service-department
Our service-department will gladly offer advice regarding
the checking of your switchboard in the manner as
described above. Our service-department is equipped to
carry out extremely intensive checking and maintenance.
Amongst other things this includes measurement of
insulation resistance, applying test-voltages, the flow-
through of relays, checking and testing all devices, trouble
shooting and replacing faulty components. See par. 1.2.5
for Eaton Holec information.
