Lubricating cables and joints
The condition of the outer sheathes on throttle/cold start
cables should be checked at regular intervals. There
should be no signs of pinching or cracking on the external
plastic sheath. Operate the control to check that the
cable slides smoothly inside the sheath: if you feel any
rubbing or catching, have the cable replaced by a
Ducati Dealer or Authorized Workshop.
To avoid this inconvenience, lubricate the ends of the cables
in each flexible drive with SHELL Advance Grease or
Retinax LX2.
In the case of the throttle control cable, it is advisable to
open the throttle control by loosening the fastening screws
(1, fig. 44), then grease the end of the cable and the roller.
Warning
Close the throttle control carefully, inserting the cable
in the roller.
Reinstall the cover and tighten the screws (1) to 1.8 Nm.
To ensure smooth operation of the joint on the side stand,
clean off any dirt and apply SHELL Alvania R3 to all points
exposed to friction.
