RS-232 and I/O Installation

The GuardianXL comes standard with an RS-232 port, four inputs and four outputs
available on board. This section will describe the connections and use of these features.

The RS-232 and I/O connections are located on the lower left quadrant of the
motherboard. The layout of all connections is shown in figure 3.2 below.

RS-232 Connection

RS-232 is a basic three conductor serial communications interface commonly used with
printers, computers and other microprocessor based electronic equipment. The
configuration of the RS-232 port is discussed in Chapter 4, Chapter 10 and Appendix A.
Also, Doran offers a basic introduction to RS-232 communications (P/N MAN214) and
its’ use with Doran indicators. This section will provide board level connection and
cabling information.
