FMX Generator Directions for Use
5
Generator Installation
Unpack and inspect the generator for any signs of physical damage to the
front panel or housing. Make sure that there are no exposed wires or other
damage that would allow the internal electrical components to be accessed.
The generator may be placed on a cart or on
any sturdy table, shelf, or platform.
NOTE:
Adequate space surrounding the generator is essential to
allow air flow for proper cooling of the generator. Refer to hospital
procedures or local codes for additional requirements.
NOTE:
The power cord supplied should be connected to a properly grounded
receptacle. Extension cords and/or adapter plugs should not be used.
Generator Preparation
Plug the provided power cord in to the mains power cord
connection on the rear panel of the generator.
Plug the power cord into a grounded receptacle. Activate the rear
panel power button on the back panel of the generator.
When the generator is plugged in and the rear panel power button
on the back panel is switched ‘on’, the front panel power button will
blink blue. The LCD touchscreen display on the front of the generator
will not illuminate until the front panel power button is pressed.
Generator Start-Up Instructions
Pressing the
front panel power button
will activate the unit and start a
series of internal self-tests. These tests will take a few seconds and are
designed to assure that the generator is ready to operate as intended.
If any of the self-tests fail, a message will be displayed on the
touchscreen. These error messages indicate that the generator
requires attention. See the “Troubleshooting” section of this
document for the proper course of action if this occurs.
When the generator starts without a power module and surgical
instrument connected, a screen indicating that no device is connected
will be displayed, and the speaker will be set to the minimum volume.
Any alerts or alarms during operation will be displayed on the
touchscreen and accompanied by several audible beeps.
Foot Pedal Installation
If desired, plug the foot pedal into the foot pedal
connection on the back panel of the generator.
CAUTION
: Use only the FMX Foot Pedal with the FMX Generator.
Power Module and Surgical
Instrument Installation
The FMX System requires the use of an FMX Power Module to
manage the delivery of energy to the surgical instruments.
FMX power modules are available in either resterilizable or single-use
disposable configurations. The FMX Reusable Power Module has a dark blue
cable and should have been sterilized by your facility. The FMX Disposable
Power Module has a white cable and is packaged in a sealed sterile pouch.
Both power modules are compatible with all FMX surgical instruments.
Connect the power module to the surgical instrument by inserting
it into the instrument and push until you feel a “click”.
NOTE:
If using an FMX Reusable Power Module, an air cooling
line (which was packaged with individual FMX surgical instruments)
must be attached to both ends of the power module cable by firmly
inserting and twisting the tubing into the black receptacle.
