Next make sure the by-pass valve is securely fastened to the
back of the valve. Take notice to the inlet and outlet markings
(arrows) located on the valve so that it will be plumbed in
properly.
The by-pass valve is clearly marked by two arrows. One arrow
is pointing toward the valve (this is the “IN”) and another is
pointing away from the unit (this is the “OUT). The handle(s)
should be aligned in the same direction as the piping when
water is flowing IN and OUT of the unit – This is also referred
to the “Service” position during filter use and in the “By-Pass”
position during installation and maintenance. In the bypass
position the handles are perpendicular to the water pipe flow.
PLACE BOTH HANDLES IN THE “BYPASS” POSITION PRIOR TO
INSTALLATION.
During the installation process, position the filter where you
want it installed, then measure and modify piping as required.
DO NOT APPLY HEAT TO ANY FITTINGS CONNECTED TO THE
FILTER BYPASS/VALVE. Heat will damage the plastic fittings.
Use only “lead free” solder when soldering copper pipe.
When installing back wash drain line use an air gap procedure
if installing over a floor drain. Use extreme caution if run-
ning drain line into a deep sink as should the sink becomes
clogged/blocked flooding could result. It is recommended to
run drain line into a drain similar to a washing machine drain
standpipe. It is recommended to use a semi-ridged plastic
tubing such as a polyethylene or similar tubing. Vinyl hose is
not recommended as it tends to collapse with age and restrict
the back wash flow. If using PVC or copper pipe for the back-
wash drain line you must install a union on the drain line
near the back of the valve for easy disconnect of the drain line
during servicing.
