5.2 Using the Troubleshooting Table

Symptom
Possible Cause
Suggested Solution
System Unit Problems
The system unit power light
is off.
The power cord is not
connected. The power
outlet might not be
working.
Check the power cord
connections at both ends.
Try a lamp that you know
works in the power outlet.
Turn the system off for 10
seconds, then turn it back
on. Unplug the terminal
cable, communications
cable, and printer. Then
plug all cables back in
and power up the system.
The power-up display
does not appear within
20 seconds.
The terminal cable is not
connected.
Check that the terminal
cable is plugged in at
both ends.
The power outlet might not
be working.
Try a lamp that you know
works in the outlet.
The terminal fuse might
have blown.
Check the brightness and
contrast controls. Replace
blown terminal fuse.
Terminal settings might be
incorrect.
See the terminal
documentation. The
terminal should be set to
9600 baud, 8 bits, and no
parity.
Problem with console port.
Power down the system.
Check the position of the
break enable switch on
the rear of the system
unit†. See Section 2.3.1.
The switch should be
in the down position
for the console terminal
connected to MMJ port 1.
†The position of the break enable switch is read only during power-up.
