mDNS information
l
The initial login to the PowerProtect X400 Appliance Configuration UI requires the
multicast DNS (mDNS) protocol. The laptop you use for the initial login to the UI
must have mDNS installed on it and it must be connected to an available switch
port that is in the same L2 network of the external network. The software required
to install mDNS on the laptop is:
n
Windows: Apple Bonjour Services
https://support.apple.com/kb/DL999
n
Linux:
n
MacOS/iOS: no additional software required
For instructions on how to install Bonjour on your laptop, see
laptop used for the initial login to the PowerProtect X400 Appliance Configuration UI
on page 63.
Internal network information
You must collect information for the internal (private) X400 Appliance network, which
is the dedicated subnet separate from the external/customer network used for data
and management traffic. The high-level internal network requirements are listed in the
following table.

You will need the following information to enter into the PowerProtect X400 Appliance
Configuration UI fields:
l
IP Prefix - for example, 192.168.32.0/24. In the UI, you must enter the IP prefix
(192.168.32 in this example), and the 0/24 is a fixed range. Note that you do not
have to enter these IP addresses in DNS.
l
VLAN ID - VLAN tagging is used to break out a network into separate logical
networks. If the switch port is using untagged/access mode, use VLAN 0. If the
switch port is using tagged/trunk mode, provide the correct VLAN ID that
