Fitting the caps: Step 5
Wood primer: Steps 6-8
Fitting the elevator floor supports: Step 9
Assembling the jig: Steps 10-12
Position the hull upside down and, one at a time, place a propeller
though the supports and place a cap over the end, gluing it in
place. While the cap is drying, turn the propeller so that it doesn’t
get stuck but the cap stays in place.
Hold the floor assembly in the central elevator
and mark the sides of the outer lengths of wood
on it, as shown. Glue the supports in place, aligning
the inside edges of the projections with the marks.
Use the inset for the correct placement of the supports.
Holding one of the wooden blocks as shown in the photo on the
left, insert two screws through the holes, making sure they have
washers under their heads. Turn upside down and place a pencil
in the groove, projecting from the edge by 30 mm.
Spray the elevator floor assembly with wood primer.
Cover the hangar assembly with paper and tape down to secure.
Also, cover the six guns fitted on page 207 (inset).
Place the hull upside down on cardboard and spray with wood
primer. Once dry, smooth the hull and use putty if necessary to
remove any imperfections. Leave the paper taped on.
Place the remaining wooden block on top, fitting the screws
through the holes. Add a washer and then a wing nut to each
screw and tighten.
Place the jig assembly on its side and make sure that the tip of the
pencil is 33 mm from the side of the wooden blocks. Adjust the fit
until this measurement is achieved.
