In addition to the software-controlled FTBD, a separate 24 VAC signal connected to pins "1" and "8" in
the low voltage terminal strip can also be used to initiate a full tank blowdown at any time.
Water Quality
The water quality requirements for the
Condair
GS humidifier are shown in
. Do-it-yourself kits
are available to test hardness in the feed water. You can also contact your local municipality for a water
quality report, or order a Condair water test kit.

6.4.1 Adjusting Blowdown Settings
Due to the wide range of water quality in different locations, it is important to adjust blowdown to suit
the local water conditions. Use the following procedure to adjust the blowdown rate and FTBD interval
for the water conditions at your site.
1. Test the quality of the feed water to determine the hardness and the chloride levels.
2. Then set the blowdown rate as follows:
a.
Refer to
, and make a note of the recommended minimum blowdown rate for the hard
-
ness level of the feed water.
b.
Then refer to
, and make a note of the recommended minimum blowdown rate for the
chloride level in the feed water.
c. Set the Blowdown Rate on the
Condair
GS humidifier to the higher of the two noted values.
3. Set the FTBD interval as follows:
a.
Refer to
, and make a note of the recommended maximum FTBD interval value for the
hardness level of the feed water.
b.
Refer to
, and make a note of the recommended maximum FTBD interval value for the
chloride level in the feed water.
c. Set the FTBD Interval on the humidifier to the lesser of the two noted values.
4. Once the base settings are set, monitor the water quality and maintenance history periodically, and
adjust the settings accordingly.
Note: Factory tests have shown that increasing the blowdown rate reduces scale build-up, while
reducing the FTBD interval reduces the chloride concentration levels in the tank. The adjusted set
-
tings should reflect a balance between reducing concentration levels and minimizing water usage.
