2–2 DIGITAL PowerStorm 1000 Graphics Subsystem Owner's Guide

2.2 Unpacking the Subsystem

The PowerStorm 1000 graphics subsystem shipment may include more than one carton.
Check the packing list to ensure that all items listed have been received.

If the equipment is damaged or if any items are missing, notify the delivery agent and
contact the DIGITAL sales representative.

Save all shipping cartons in case the equipment needs to be moved to a new location, or
needs to be returned for repair.

The PowerStorm 1000 graphics subsystem deskside chassis can weigh 32 kg
(70 lb) or more. Use sufficient personnel or the proper lifting equipment to
remove the deskside chassis from the shipping carton.

2.3 Installing the Workstation Interface Board and VGA
Module

All three PowerStorm 1000 graphics subsystems require that a Workstation Interface
Board be installed in the AlphaStation system. The entry and full PowerStorm 1000
graphics subsystems also require that a VGA Module be installed in the AlphaStation
system and connected to the Standard Resolution Module with a pass-through video cable
for console output to be displayed.

Perform the following procedure to install the Workstation Interface Board and the VGA
Module in the AlphaStation system:

1. Refer to the AlphaStation system documentation and perform an orderly power down

of the system.

2. Refer to the AlphaStation system documentation and remove the PCI card cage cover.
