Installation and Initial Configuration
The initial setup includes mounting the device on a flat surface or in a rack and completing the configuration tasks necessary to bring the device
online and verify the operation.

Mount the device. Choose one of the following mounting options:

Gather all components required for the initial
setup. Refer to Items Required on page 59.
Provide power to the device. Refer to Providing Power to the Device on page 59.
Attach a management station, establish a
console connection, and configure the various
levels of passwords. Refer to Establishing a First-Time Connection to the Console Port on page 59. After completing
this task, log in to the console port to configure the device.
Set the IP address, subnet mask, and the
default gateway IP address. Use the ip address command to configure a static device IP address, subnet mask, and gateway
IP address, or you can use a DHCP server to obtain the information dynamically. Refer to
Configuring an IP Address for the Device on page 62 .
Set the date and time. Use the clock set command to set the current date and time for the device. For more
information, refer to
Setting the Date and Time on page 64.
Customize the host name and chassis name.
• Use the hostname command to change the default host name and CLI prompt.
• Use the chassisname command to change the default chassis name or ID.
For more information, refer to Customizing the Host name and Chassis Name on page 63.
Establish a connection to the out-of-band
management port. By establishing a connection to the out-of-band management port, you can complete the device
configuration using an SSH session, Telnet, or management application. Refer to
Establishing a
Connection to the Out-of-Band Management Port on page 64.
