1. INTRODUCTION
The RAK30 HW & R provides a mounted, portable water and pre-packed ration
heating facility for the crew of vehicles which have a 28Volts DC (nominal)
electrical system. Operation of the RAK30 is possible while stationary or mobile
provided an operational voltage is maintained. The unit has a one shot boil
capacity.
The RAK30 HW & R has two basic modes of operation:-
One Shot Boil: With the Inner Container removed, the unit can boil up to 3 litres
of water from 20°C in just over 30 minutes when switched to the ‘HI’ setting. After
boiling, the water will cool slowly until a temperature approaching 86°C ± 3°C is
reached. The HW & R will then continue to operate and maintain the contents at
this lower temperature.
Pre-packaged Food Warming:
With the Inner Container in place containing pre-
packaged Food and the Outer container filled with 1 18 litres of water, Pre-packaged
food can be warmed to around 68°C when switched to ‘LO’ setting.
A safety feature of the RAK30 HW & R is the ‘boil dry’ detection facility. Should
such condition arise the power will be cut from the heaters and the unit will turn
itself off.
