Analog modulation
Analog modulation allows direct control of the laser power by an input signal. This allows the laser to be modulated
with arbitrary waveform. To enable analog modulation using the Cobolt Monitor
™
software, select “Modulation
Mode”, and “Analog” under Modulation Type.
The input signal should be connected to the 6-pin Molex connector on the back of the laser head. The laser is
calibrated so that 1.3 V input results in the maximum allowed diode current. Note that the laser may give more power
if a voltage larger than 1 V is used. Although the current is clamped to a safe current limit to prevent damage, the user
must nevertheless avoid overdriving the diode so that it gives more than the nominal power level. Specifications and
diode lifetime are not guaranteed above nominal power, which is stated on
the manufacturer’s identification label
on
the laser head. Measure the input voltage before connecting to the laser head.
Analog modulation and direct ON/OFF cannot be used simultaneously.
Typical analog modulation pulse shape, 06-DPL output on channel 1, function generator input on channel 3 of 0-1 V sinus, 100 Hz.
Modulation mode combinations
In addition to the modulation types described above, the Cobolt 06-DPL can be operated with a combination of
modulation signals.
D Analog
The DPL can be used with hybrid d analog modulation. This can be accessed in the Cobolt Monitor
™
software
under the Modulation Type option. In this mode, whenever the digital state is on, the laser runs at a power determined
by the analog voltage.
