Installing VRLA Batteries
The FAC 900 cabinet can house a primary single string of front-terminal 100Ah VRLA (four batteries per string). A cabinet
equipped with an optional Expansion Module (EXM) can support a secondary or alternative location for the battery string.

• Preparing batteries for installation
• Installing a 100Ah VRLA battery string
ALERT!
Read the battery manufacturer’s instructions before installing batteries. Follow the manufacturer
guidelines and local safety practices.
CAUTION!
Electrical, chemical, fire, and heat hazard. Handle batteries with care to avoid personal injury or
damage to the equipment.
WARNING!
Electrical hazard. Batteries contain a stored charge. Only a qualified technician should perform
this procedure.
To prepare batteries for installation
Unpack the batteries from the shipping packaging.
Remove the terminal caps from the top of each battery.
Clean and apply No-Ox anti-corrosion grease to each battery terminal.
Locate the bagged kit containing the string jumper straps and other materials. Set the kit aside for use during
installation.
Note:
If you are using the optional battery heater, install the heater before installing batteries. See Installing a Battery Heat-
er for instructions.
CAUTION!
Both sides of the Anderson connectors are hot.
WARNING!
In -48V telecom systems, red leads connect to the negative terminal and black leads connect to
the positive terminal. Do not reverse the wiring polarities.
