(§14.8). Outputs from the buffers are routed to the output
channels using the

XFER

,

CNTL XFER

and

ALT XFER

functions (§14.9 and §14.10).

NOTE

The MAX!> must be equipped with
the optional second buffer in order for
CHNG and CNTL CHNG to be
operational.

The system default on the iNFiNiT! and MAX!> assigns
Buffer 1 to CHANNEL A AIR and Buffer 2 to PRE-
VIEW whenever entering Message Compose. CHAN-
NEL B is unassigned. The default active buffer and
channel is

The following table defines terms used in frame buffer
and channel operations.

Frame buffer
or buffer

Buffers, also called frame buffers, can be likened to trans-
parent pages. You do your work on one “page” at a time
(i.e. the active buffer). By using the

CHNG

or

CNTL

CHNG

functions, you can change which “page” or buffer

that you are working on. The “pages” can be “overlaid” or
mixed in output, so that one appears on top of the other.

The buffers installed as hardware are designated FB-A,
FB-B (if present), and FB-C (if present). In Message Com-
pose, they are referred to as buffers 1, 2, and 3.

You can work in only one buffer at a time.
