- Macro shooting range of 5 centimeters in wide-angle mode and 15 centimeters in telephoto
With the PowerShot G3, macro shots can be taken as
close as 5 centimeters from the top of the lens in
wide-angle mode and 15 centimeters in telephoto mode.
In this case, the area of the photographed subject is
approximately 74 mm by 54 mm in the wide-angle
mode and 55 mm by 41 mm in the telephoto mode.
- Insertion of neutral density (ND) filter makes it possible to produce blur effects and to take
flash photos in macro mode
The PowerShot G3 makes it possible for the first time to insert an ND (light reducing) filter. In this way, a wider
aperture than usual can be used even in bright conditions to produce blur effects (see Photograph 2–2A). By
stopping down the aperture to slow the shutter speed, so-called slow shutter effects can also be obtained (see
Photograph 2–2B). Furthermore, flash photography becomes possible at macro distances, normally difficult to
do because it results in overexposure (see Photo 2–2C).
The ND filter is to have approx. three steps of light reduction.
- Selectable between evaluative metering, center-weighted average metering and spot metering
(linked to AF frame/fixed to center)
Three light metering modes can be selected on the PowerShot G3, like the PowerShot G2 — evaluative metering,
center-weighted average metering and spot metering. When spot metering is selected, the light metering point
can be chosen to be either linked to the AF frame or fixed to the center of the photo frame.
