2. Plug the voltmeter into the Deflection jack on the rear panel. Then adjust the VR4 (ZERO) POT.
Observe the board diagram until the output from the rear panel Deflection jack reads zero.
3. Now place the stainless steel standard 0.25" beam on the beam supports and make certain that the
shaft is making contact with the beam. Adjust the LVDT VR5 (GAIN) POT ). Observe diagram on the
rear panel circuit board until the voltmeter reads -5.00 volts.
4. Replace the 0.25" beam with the 0.15" beam on the supports. Then readjust the VR4 POT so that
the voltmeter reads zero volts. Replace the 0.15" beam with the 0.25" beam on the supports and
readjust the VR5 (GAIN) POT for -5.0 volts on the voltmeter. Repeat this step until your readings are
consistent. (This will produce a scale of .02 inches/volt).
5. Tighten the contact nut on the load platform. Then place the gage block in position underneath it so
the red level is under the contact nut. Lower the air bearing until it is just touching the 0.25" beam.
Note: It may be necessary to adjust the screw height to permit the air bearing to
contact the beam. See step 6.
6. Loosen the hex nut on the adjustment screw and turn the screw by hand until the contact nut is just
touching the red level of the gage block. Remove the ¼” beam.
7. Readjust the screw height until the voltmeter reading for the deflection voltage is -5.0 volts; then
lock it in place with the hex nut. If necessary, make final adjustments to the screw height until the
voltmeter reads -5.0 volts.
