System Requirements

Chapter 5: Troubleshooting

To use WordScan, you need:

PC/AT or compatible

An IBM PC/AT or compatible with an 80386 or higher
processor.

Hard Disk

A hard disk with at least 6 MBytes of unused space.

Memory

At least 4 MBytes of total system memory (8 MBytes
highly recommended).

Windows Virtual

At least 8 MBytes of permanent virtual memory (swap

Memory Space

file) within Windows (10 MBytes recommended).

Checking

Choose the

386 Enhanced

item in the Control Panel

Virtual Memory

of the Main program group. Windows should suggest at
least 6 MBytes for virtual memory. If unavailable, try
another partition or move files from one partition to
another to free up additional disk space. See the
Windows 3.1 User’s Guide for additional information.

Monitor

Microsoft Windows 3.1-compatible graphics display using
either a VGA or SVGA card.

Mouse

Microsoft Windows 3.1-compatible mouse or other pointing
device.

DOS

PC DOS or MS DOS version 5.0 or higher.

Windows

Microsoft Windows version 3.1 or higher in Enhanced
mode.

Scanner

WordScan-compatible image scanner and interface card.

Use this checklist to find and remedy the most common
installation problems.

Make sure your PC starts up normally (without any
error messages) and can run other software.

❑

Make sure Windows version 3.1 is installed and
working correctly. Try running other Windows
software such as Paintbrush, Notepad, or Calculator
to see if they run properly.
