Multichannel Token Ring Configuration

In this case, we require three routed Token Ring connections above and beyond
the connection of the CRM-3T to Ring 1 of the chassis backplane. We select one
NPM-1TR, providing one Token Ring connection, and one NPM-2TR, providing
two Token Ring connections. This supplies the three routed connections that we
need. The connections to the rings will be made by using jumper cables to connect
the Token Ring ports of the NPMs to lobe ports on the TDRMIM or TRXMIM
modules. Each of these ports will be assigned to Ring 2, 3 or 4, through
management operations, and the CRM-3T will perform the routing operations
required to interconnect all four rings of the chassis.

As the CRM-3T NPM-2TR modules use DB9 connectors to make Token RIng
connections, we must specify some form of media converter to allow the routed
ports to be connected to the ports of the TRXMIM modules, which use RJ45 ports.
The Cabletron Systems TRMF-2 Token Ring Media Filter can convert the pinouts
and signaling of the DB9 ports to those of an RJ45 port. Three TRMF-2 media
filters and siz jumper cables will be required to complete the interconnection of
the four Token Rings as shown in Figure 6-16.

NOTES

Some NPM configurations for the CRM-3T or CRM-3E router
require that the memory of the router module be expanded.
This requires an upgrade kit, available from Cabletron
Systems. Be certain to have your Cabletron Systems Sales
Representative check the configuration of your CRM-3T to
ensure sufficient memory for the NPMs you require.

NPM connections for hub-based modules or networks beyond
the one backplane connection must be made through front
panel ports using jumper cables. Be sure to reserve usable
ports for these routing connections.
