Token Ring

Multi-Ring Configuration
To continue with the design, we must determine which management module,
TRMM or TRMMIM, to use to set up the Token Ring. Since this network is a
completely new design, and does not require the expansion or accommodation of
existing equipment, the half-sized management module slot of the
MMAC-M8FNB chassis (slot #1) is empty. For this reason we select the TRMM as
the first management module.
The workgroups have been divided and the user counts have been calculated to
be 17 teller stations and 64 operations controls stations. The order in which we
approach the configuration of station connections is not overly important, but
there is one factor in the planning which prompts us to configure the teller
stations first. The teller station network is not expected to grow much in the next
several years, if at all. Due to the way that this design will accommodate the
bridging functions, it will be much easier to add further Token Ring station ports
to the second ring than to the first.
Once the first ring is configured, we plan to break and reform the backplane token
ring with a Token Ring bridge module. Modules providing station ports for this
second ring are then placed in the remaining free slots of the module. Adding
users to the first ring would involve removing all the modules populating the
second ring, including the bridge, adding the new module, and reinstalling the
bridge and the remaining second ring modules.
