It is evident from these settings that the use of mercury in the pipette causes
much stronger pulses and requires much lower settings. The bandwidth
setting has the effect of rounding off the tip of the pulse that is generated,
making it more gentle. Instead of an inverted V, the pulse looks more like an
inverted U. Reducing the bandwidth also reduces the intensity of the
amplitude somewhat. Reducing the bandwidth is a critical success factor
when mercury is used in the pipette.
