8.3 Preventive Maintenance and Inspections
8.3.1 Cleaning the SMART X2S
The SMART X2S’’ exterior panels may be cleaned with a damp cloth. Do not use soap or aggressive
cleansing agents.
In order to avoid damage to the touchscreen, the use of sharp objects such as styluses should be
avoided. To clean the touchscreen, avoid the use of abrasives or aggressive solvents; only use a soft,
damp cloth with a mild detergent if necessary.
To ensure adequate airflow through the SMART X2S, periodically check that the rear ventilation holes
are clear of dust and debris.
8.3.2 Replacing the Lithium Battery
The SMART X2S’’ goniostat/interlock PCB uses a lithium battery. To ensure that the battery does not
fail, replace it once every 2 years as part of a biannual preventative maintenance procedure. The
battery is available from Bruker AXS as part number 122-004600.
To replace the battery:
1. Use the Administrator key to open the SMART X2S, and lift off the top cover.
2. Locate the battery in socket J16 on the goniostat/interlock PCB (i.e., the lower of the two
circuit boards immediately to the right-hand side of the radiation shield enclosure).

3. Remove the battery from under the contact clip. A capacitor will preserve the board’’s
memory while there is no battery in the socket.
4. Place the new battery into the socket, positive (+) side up, under the contact clip.
