Sample Preparation and Mounting
To study a sample with the SMART X2S, the sample must be mounted on a Bruker Spine Pin.
3.1
Sample Preparation Overview
The process of sample mounting is simple: from the many crystals within a bulk sample, identify the
best candidate for study and affix it to the Bruker Spine Pin with a special ultraviolet-curable adhesive.
Once the adhesive is cured, the sample is ready for use with the SMART X2S.
You will need:
•
Your bulk sample;
•
A microscope for identifying suitable candidate crystals for study;
•
A preparation needle or other tool for separating the candidate crystals;
•
A Bruker Spine Pin micromount and cap;
•
Ultraviolet-curable adhesive to fix the crystal on the Bruker Spine Pin; and
•
An ultraviolet penlight for rapidly curing the adhesive.
