Driving precautions
90
Before driving with a trailer or load carrier,
make sure that the ball head is properly
locked, as unstable driving conditions and/or
accidents could otherwise result. The ball head
is properly locked if the LED in the sidewall of
the luggage compartment shows green.
<
Swivelling out the ball head
1.
Switch off the ignition and open the luggage
compartment.
2.
Step out of the swivelling area of the ball
head behind the vehicle.
3.
Briefly press the button in the sidewall of
the luggage compartment. The ball head
swivels out to its intermediate position. The
LED in the button flashes in red.
4.
Swivel out the ball head manually until it
locks into place audibly. To protect your
hands from dirt, wear the linen gloves sup-
plied with the vehicle. The ball head is cor-
rectly locked into place when the LED in the
button lights up in green.
If the ball head is not properly locked, the
LED in the button flashes in red. Press the
button for approx. 5 seconds and swivel out the
ball head again. If the LED in the button contin-
ues to flash in red, do not use the trailer tow
hitch, as unstable driving conditions and/or
accidents could otherwise result.
<
Due to the reinforced chassis in the rear area of
a vehicle equipped for trailer towing, the self-
regenerating function of the rear bumper sys-
tem is limited.
Swivelling in the ball head
1.
Uncouple the trailer or load carrier, remove
the fittings for the track-stabilising devices,
pull out the connector for the trailer's power
supply and, if applicable, pull the adapter
out of the socket.
2.
Remove the cover from the side panel of the
luggage compartment, see Swivelling out
the ball head.
3.
Press button briefly, see Swivelling out.
4.
Grip the rear of the ball head and swivel it in
until it locks into place audibly. The ball
head is correctly locked into place when the
LED in the button lights up in green.
Grip the rear of the ball head when
you are swivelling it inwards, as other-
wise injury could result.
