front passenger seat, or if driver or front pas-
senger unfasten their seat belts.
Damaged seat belts
If the seat belts have been exposed to
loads in an accident or damaged in any
other way: have the belt system including belt
tensioners and any child-restraint systems
renewed and the belt anchorage checked.
Always have this work performed by BMW
Service or a workshop that operates to BMW
specifications and has suitably trained person-
nel, otherwise correct operation of these safety
systems is not ensured.

Mirrors
Outside mirrors
The outer section of each mirror displays a
larger field of view
*
, though slightly distorted,
than the inner section. In this way, the view to
the rear is extended and the so-called blind spot
is reduced in size.
The mirror on the passenger's side is
more convex than the mirror on the
driver's side. Reflected objects are closer than
they appear. This makes it more difficult to esti-
mate the distance at which another vehicle is
following you. This also applies to the outer
section of each outside mirror. <

Adjusting manually
The mirrors can also be adjusted manually, if
necessary: press the edge of the glass.
Folding mirrors in and out*
At speeds up to approx. 20 km/h (12 mph), you
can fold the mirrors in or out by pressing button
3 . This can be useful in narrow streets, for
instance, or to fold the mirrors back out into the
correct position after they have been folded in
manually.
Before driving through a car wash, fold
the mirrors in manually or by pressing
button 3 ; otherwise, they could be damaged
due to the width of the car. <
Automatic heating*
At outside temperatures below a certain limit,
both outside mirrors are automatically heated
while the engine is running or the ignition
switched on.
Passenger-side mirror tilt-down* –
parking position function
Activating
1. Push the mirror selector switch to the posi-
tion for the driver's-side mirror

2. Engage reverse gear or move the selector
lever to position R.
The glass of the mirror on the passenger
side tilts slightly down. The road surface
close to the car, e.g. the kerb, is thus
