steering and thus stabilise the vehicle before
the driver takes any action. This stabilising
intervention is deactivated when DSC is
switched off, see page
59 .
Malfunction
The warning lights come on. Active
steering is malfunctioning and deac-
tivated. At low speeds greater steer-
ing wheel movements are necessary,
at high speeds the car reacts more sensitively
to steering wheel movements. Drive cautiously
and think well ahead. Have the system checked.
If, after a power failure, the warning light comes
on when the engine is started, the system must
be activated via initialisation.
Initialising the system
1. Start the engine.
2. While the vehicle is at a standstill, turn the
steering wheel from the straight-ahead
position all the way to the left. Then turn the
steering wheel all the way to the right before
turning it back to the straight-ahead posi-
tion.
3. Turn the engine off.
The next time the engine is started, all the func-
tions of Active steering are available again.
Two-stage brake lights*
The brake lights light up in two stages, depend-
ing on how sharply you apply the brakes.
> Normal braking:
The brake lights and the centre brake light
come on.
> Sharp braking:
A larger part of the brake lights' illuminating
surface lights up.
Airbags
There are the following airbags beneath the
covers indicated:
1 Front airbags for the driver and front pas-
senger
2 Head-level airbags at front and rear
3 Side airbags in the seat backrests.
Protective effect
Comply with the instructions on page 26 ,
or there will be greater risks to personal
safety. <
The front airbags protect the driver and front
passenger in the event of a head-on collision, if
the protective action of the seat belts alone
would be insufficient. The head-level and side
airbags provide protection in the event of a
