Leaving harbour
Setting out
For boarding, the boat has one opening gate in the transom, and
another on the starboard side.
The transom gate has a retainer to hold it open.
Remember to close and lock the gates before setting sail.
The aft side of the wheelhouse has a glazed door. There are also
doors opening onto the port and starboard side decks.
Lock the wheelhouse doors after opening.
The two doors opening onto the side decks from the cockpit are
fi
tted with retaining clips.
Lock these doors open or shut when underway.
HYDRAULIC GANGWAY (OPTION)
- Engage the gangway circuit breaker (on the engine room elec-
trical panel).
- Extend the gangway using the control mounted on the cockpit
transom or the remote control.
- Close and lock the deck hatches and ports.
- Ensure that the interior of the boat is tidy (doors, hanging lockers,
drawers closed).
- Check the location of safety equipment.
- Turn on the electrical equipment using the lock/unlock switch
(which prevents operation of the battery master switch controls),
on the electrical panel located on the aft port side of the wheel-
house.
Green indicator lamps light up on all switches to show that the
battery master switch control is enabled.
(Please refer to the full battery switch operating instructions in the
APPENDIX at the end of the ELECTRICITY chapter).
- Check that all essential navigation instruments are working cor-
rectly.
- Unlock all exterior lockers.
- Check that the anchor line is present and accessible.
- Before starting the engines check that the seacocks to the cooling
water intake and stern tube are open.
- Put the controls of both driving positions in neutral.
Having selected the driving position for starting (see engine ins-
tructions), pre-heat one engine and start it.
- Repeat this procedure with the second engine.
- Before casting off, check that the steering is working freely.
- Check that the electric windlass is working.
- Check that the boat boarding gates, forward guardrail openings
and
fl
ybridge guardrail openings are properly closed.
danger
Remember to disconnect the shore supply
before casting off.
Before putting out to sea, it is always an excellent
habit to make a rapid ‘pre-departure check’,
so that you are ready to face calmly
any situation that may arise and
to be able to sail with peace of mind.
advice - recommendation
Always check the weather forecast before
sailing.
advice - recommendation

Prepare your passage in advance and inform
the crew of the skipper’s decisions.
