Configuring with Simatic Step7 V13 (TIA)
Configuring is done in the following steps:
1. Install the GSD file.
2. Based on the specifications and the controller manual
the hardware configuration is created along with a
PROFIBUS subnetwork.
3. Install and configure the hardware for the
magnetostrictive linear transducer.
Only then can a program access the sensor.
5.1 Install the GSD file
The GSD file can be downloaded at
www.balluff.de .
In the TIA project navigator under Device Configuration
select Manage General Station Description files (GSD) from
the Tools menu to select the source path to the GSD and
import the GSD file.
5.2 Install the magnetostrictive linear position
sensor

Uncontrolled system movement
When starting up, if the linear encoder system is part of a
closed loop system whose parameters have not yet been
set, the system may perform uncontrolled movements.
This could result in personal injury and equipment
damage.

Persons must keep away from the system’s
hazardous zones.

Startup must be performed only by trained technical
personnel.
►
Observe the safety instructions of the equipment or
system manufacturer.
After installing the GSD file the BTL7-T500… can be
selected in the hardware catalog. The magnetostrictive
linear position sensor is configured by dragging the
BTL7-T500
from the catalog to the network view and there
assigning it to the master (see Fig. 5-1). If necessary
settings for the network address and transfer speed can
be made.
