Diagnostics
The SVI II ESD provides two types of diagnostic information; the continuous diagnostics that re-
quire no user configuration for which no valve movement occurs and Partial Stroke Testing (PST)
diagnostics that you can configure and run at any time. You can also manually run a proof test
(see page 19).
Partial Stroke Test Diagnostics
The SVI II ESD is capable of partially stroking the valve to detect failures in the final control ele-
ment assembly. The PST is configured using the pushbutton display or through ValVue ESD. Upon
detection of a failure or deviation from the user configurable conditions the annunciation chan-
nel SW 1 sets its state to low.
The PST can be configured to start automatically or can be initiated through setting the current
input to 16.4 mA. +/- 0.1mA, local control panel pushbutton, or initiated locally by an operator.
When configured to run automatically or when initiated through a safety rated logic solver, ad-
ditional diagnostic credit can be taken for the PST.
In addition to the safety rated I/O, HART
®
communications are available to provide additional in-
formation on the SVI II ESD status. Additional diagnostic functions include:
With ASD or A/DSD modes, the device is capable of capturing and storing the
shutdown event when the safety function is engaged and / or when the
valve is positioned using the control signal (4-20 mA or 0-24 VDC).
The SVI II ESD can provide general information of the device’s sensor health
(
Temperature, Actuator Pressure, Air supply
,
Current
, etc.).
Capable of annunciating faults resulting from a PST.
Discrete output (SW1) is de-energized for any fault related to the I/P, relay, or
valve/actuation assembly, resulting from a PST or during normal operation.
For most fault conditions, the ESD device attempts to remain in the
energized state until an ESD command is given (unless specified otherwise
during setup).
