Network Settings
Upon delivery, the network settings of the FRITZ!Box Fon are
preconfigured as follows:
According to these settings, all computers connected with
the FRITZ!Box Fon are located in the same subnetwork.
You can change any of these settings, but should only do so
if you are well versed in network settings. If you do not have
much experience in setting up networks, please read this
chapter in full.

work” explain when it may make sense to change the
preconfigured network settings, what the effects of
these changes are, and how to make the changes.
7.1 Basics
What Is IP?
IP is the abbreviation for Internet Protocol.
The IP Internet Protocol is the most important basic protocol
for the control of data exchange in local networks and in the
Internet. The Internet protocol works without a connection;
in other words, data packets are transmitted from the sender
to the recipient without previous consultation. The address-
es of the recipient and the sender in the data packets are
given as IP addresses.
