Chapter 7: Server failure processing
This section discusses how VTel responds to failure events from the Telephony Server and
EDU Server.
In addition to actual failure of the servers, this chapter also applies to the case where VTel
receives a TS/VDU.SessionFailed.event. For the Avaya TS, such an event usually
corresponds to a failure in the connection between the Avaya TS and the phone switch.
However, the result is the same loss of control for the clients, and it is processed in the
same manner.

The configuration file
There are three
vtel.ini
entries associated with recovering from server failure. For
additional information on
vtel.ini
, see
Configuring VTel
on page 33, and
The vtel.ini
configuration file
on page 105.
ServerFailReconnectLimit
This entry determines the number of times to attempt a reconnect. Zero (0) means that no
attempt to reconnect will be made by VTel. This should only be used if your application is
handling reconnects.
For example, to set the maximum number of attempts at reconnecting to 5:
ServerFailReconnectLimit
5
If attempts to reconnect fail, prompting is determined by
ServerFailPrompt
.
