The system is designed to provide an average of 3A (amps) of +5 V power for each card
in the system. The total +5 V current-draw in a fully loaded system (all option card slots
filled) must not exceed 9A.
When a card is installed, you can access the external connectors on it via an opening in
the back of the computer. When no card is installed in a slot, the opening is closed by a
cover. If you remove or move a card, it is important that you use the covers to close the
opening to ensure correct electromagnetic shielding and to ensure proper cooling.
Option cards can be extremely sensitive to ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) and always
require careful handling. Hold the card by the edges only, and do not touch the
electronic components or gold edge connectors. After removing a card from its
protective wrapper or from the system, place it flat on a grounded, static-free surface,
component-side up. Do not slide the card across any surface.
Your computer has a PCI configuration utility that automatically sets up a newly-
installed PCI card to work with your computer and other PCI cards. However, if you
install a new PCI card, it could conflict with the existing configuration so much that you
cannot start the computer. If this happens, reset the configuration data as described on
the next page.
