5.2.3. Bottom-Line Envelope Parameters
5.2.3.1. Rate Multiplier
The Rate Multiplier (located on the bottom right of the ENVELOPES screen) can be used to
speed up or slow down the entire envelope, for those situations where the shape of the
envelope is correct but the timing needs to be changed.
• A value of 1.000 means the rates of the envelope are normal.
• Values lower than 1.000 slow down the envelope.
• Values higher than 1.000 will speed up the envelope.
The minimum value is 0.100, or 1/10th the normal speed. The maximum value is 10.0, or
ten times faster.
Double-click the field to reset the value to 1.000.
♪
: Different values are available for the Rate Multiplier parameter when an MSEG envelope is in SYNC
mode. They are multiples and fractions of the clock ranging from 1/32 to 8/1.
5.2.3.2. Depth
(Pitch, DCW, and Mod envelopes only)
Underneath the graphic envelope display, towards the right side, is a parameter labeled
Depth
. The Depth control allows you to lessen or invert the effect of the envelope. It acts as
a multiplier of all the Levels of the envelope.
• At a Depth of 100 (the default level), the envelope has full positive effect, for
example opening up the DCW or raising the pitch. Click and drag down on the
number to decrease how much the envelope will modulate the target. Lowering
the Depth lowers the effect of the envelope on its target.
Double-click the depth
field to set it to 100.
• At a Depth of 0, the envelope has no effect on the sound.
• At a Depth of -100, the envelope's effect is inverted: if it’s a pitch envelope, the
sound will go flat instead of sharp, if it’s a DCW envelope, it will decrease the
level of the partials of the waveform.
The Depth parameter comes in handy if you’ve drawn an envelope that you like the shape
of, but you want it to have less effect. It is like lowering the Level settings of each envelope
segment simultaneously.
