4.3.2.2. Noise modulation
Click on the Noise icon in the modulation row, or on the NOISE button on the upper right
side of the virtual keyboard, to turn on noise modulation. This causes the right Line (2’ or 1’)
to be modulated with noise. Increase or decrease the Amt to change the modulation level.
Changing the Level control of the right Line will reduce the amount of the modulated signal
in the output mix.
If the LINE SELECT mode is set to 1+2’ and noise modulation is on, the noise follows the Pitch
and Amp envelope curves of Line 2’. In 1+1’ mode, only the Line 1 curves are active.
Noise modulation is completely separate from the Noise Source described below. They can
be used simultaneously.
4.3.3. Noise Source
The bottom line of the center section features a noise generator that can be added to the
sound. This source is independent of noise modulation, and is mixed with the sound of any
Line that is active (left, right, or both). Its level follows the Amp envelopes, but is unaffected
by Pitch or DCW envelopes. Unlike noise modulation, its tone is constant, not affected by the
notes being played (unless you specifically assign a modulation source to the Color control).
If the noise source Level is increased from 0%, you will hear the noise as you play the
keyboard.
The Color control affects the tone of this noise. Low settings of Color (0.00%) emphasize low
frequency noise. Mid settings (to 50%) have broadband noise (pink noise). Higher settings
accentuate upper frequencies and cut lower ones, creating what most people perceive as
hiss.
4.4. Unison and UNISON DETUNE
This feature creates up to eight copies of the current patch which are stacked to make a
larger sound. On the lower toolbar of the CZ V screen, below the keyboard, is a data field
labeled Unison. Clicking on this data field displays a pop-up menu that lets you choose how
many instruments you want to stack up, from one to eight.
The default setting for Unison is 1 (no voice stacking). Near the top center of the CZ V screen
is the image of a rotary knob labeled UNISON DETUNE. At the default setting, the UNISON
DETUNE knob has no effect, and the maximum polyphony (shown at the bottom of the
screen in the Poly data field to the right of Unison) is 32. If you click on the Unison data field
and increase it to 2, the maximum polyphony goes down to 16 automatically, because every
time you play a key you’re actually playing two sets of sound generators at once.
