Ext FM Input Gain
(Follows Ext FM ADC Offset cal, Requires Freq Ref, Mod Processor) Connect equipment as shown in
.
1.
Connect a 50
Ω
function generator (Keysight 33500B or equivalent) to the Ext FM input. Use a BNC-T
and a DVM (HP34401A - obsolete, or HP34461A, or equivalent) to monitor applied AC voltage.
2.
Set PLLmod mode = 2 (LNFM), Mod source = 1 (External), FM_HPF = 0 (DC coupled).
3.
Set FM_POL = 1 (not inverted), FM_Mute = 0 (not muted).
4.
Set FM meter time constant = 100 msec.
5.
Apply a 1 kHz sinewave with no DC to the Ext FM input. Set function generator amplitude = 1Vpk. Allow
1sec for transients to settle. Note the DVM reading, which should be close to 0.707Vrms at the Ext FM
input.
6.
Read FM meter peak to peak output.
7.
Set PLL Mod source = 0 (Internal). Set internal FM waveform generator to 1 kHz rate.
8.
Allow 1sec for transients to settle. Read FM meter peak to peak output.
9.
Calculate to 3 decimal places:

GFMext = [0.707/(Step 3 DVM reading)]*(Step 4 result)/(Step 6 result)
11.
GFMext value should fall within a range of 0.950 to1.050
12.
Save GFMext value to the FM cal table. This cal value will be re-applied to the GFMext register at
MG362x1A boot-up and reset.
Rear Panel FM Waveform Amplitude
(Requires Freq Ref, Mod Processor) Connect equipment as shown in

Connect a BNC-T to Rear Panel FM Output. Terminate one port of the “T” with 49.9
Ω
s (1 %).
2.
Connect the remaining port of the “T” to a DVM (HP34461A, or equivalent).
3.
Set PLLmod mode = 2 (LNFM), Mod source = 0 (Internal), FM_HPF = 0 (DC coupled).
4.
Set FM_POL = 1 (not inverted), FM_Mute = 0 (not muted).
5.
Set internal FM waveform generator to produce a 1 kHz sinewave.
6.
Set FM Ref DAC = 3276.
7.
Note the DVM reading, Vrms.
8.
Set FM Ref DAC = 3276*0.707/(
).
9.
Fine adjust FM Ref DAC to get exactly 0.707Vrms at the DVM.
10.
Calculate to 3 decimal places: GFMRP = 3276/(FM Ref DAC).
11.
Save GFMRP value to the FM cal table. (Cell EH18 in MG362x1A Freq-FM-Spurs Calc 3P2-17.xlsx). This
cal value will be re-applied to the GFMext register at MG362x1A boot-up and reset.
